Incessant rains since last night due to the deep depression in the Bay of Bengal have thrown normal life out of gear in Kolkata and its adjoining districts. Many areas in Kolkata City are waterlogged. Train services on Sealdah Division of Eastern Railways have been affected. In Kolkata, circular train services and the metro train services have also been affected. AIR Correspondent reports that in neighbouring North 24 Pargana district, one person died due to wall collapse. River embankments in the Sunderbans are reported to have developed breaches at many places. The low-lying areas of Barrackpore, Basirhat and Bangaon sub-divisions have been submerged. Affected people have been shifted to safer places. Water level of a number of rivers in North 24 Parganas have gone up.The Coast Guard and the Navy have been alerted to keep watch on the situation. Met office has forecast more rain in the next 24 hours.
