Incessant rain disrupts normal life in Assam, AP

In Assam, incessant rain in the catchment areas of neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh disrupted normal life. Official sources in Guwahati said that four lakh 15 thousand people of over 800 villages in 13 districts are reeling under floods. Surface communication between Dhemaji and rest of the State is cut-off. Majuli and Sadia also remained cut off from other parts. So far, four people have died in flood and erosion. Rescue and relief operations are on in Dibrugarh, Sadia, Majuli and Dhemaji. National Disaster Response Force yesterday rescued two thousand people to safer places in Dhemaji. But due to inclement weather, helicopter services can’t be pressed into service. Army has been asked to provide relief materials at worst affected Sadia of Tinsukia district from Arunachal Pradesh side. In Lower Assam, flood water submerged villages at Rangia, Nalbari and Bajali area. National Highway number 31 is under water at Rangia, causing restriction in the movement of light vehicles. Ferry services suspended between Guwahati to North Guwahati. AIR Correspondent reports that surging water has also submerged parts of World Heritage Site, Kaziranga National park.

In Arunachal Pradesh, the flood situation has deteriorated due to continuous rain. Landslides are causing disruption in surface communication. Our Correspondent reports, the state government has sounded red alert throughout the state.
