Incessant rain claimed at least 20 lives besides damaging crop in nearly 6 lakh acres in 13 districts of Coastal and Rayalaseema Regions of Andhra Pradesh. Reviewing the situation late last night, Chief Minister K. Rosaiah directed the collectors of affected districts to continue to be on high alert. He issued instructions to keep the Disaster Management Response Force at Arakonam in Tamil Nadu ready. State Disaster Management Commissioner T Radha said the torrential rain affected nearly 800 villages, damaged about 30 thousand houses. About 27 thousand persons were evacuated from low laying areas and over 90 relief camps were set up.AIR correspondent reports that many rivulets, streams and tanks, which were in spate in these districts, were overflowing onto roads. Running of several long distance trains was delayed due to damage of railway track in Prakasam district.
