Two persons were killed and 7 injured in a stampede after a fire broke out in the Murshidabad Medical College Hospital this afternoon. The state government has announced a compensation of two lakhs rupees to the kin of the deceased and free treatment for the seven injured.<br/><br/>Director of Health Services Biswaranjan Satpathy told agencies that two women – a nursing aide and a relative of a patient died in the stampede. He said, the fire broke out in the AC machine of a vacant VIP cabin at the main medical ward of the hospital. <br/><br/>Patients in the adjacent wards were immediately taken out and were relocated to the newly built Mother Child Hub, he said.<br/><br/>Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is monitoring the situation, while a four-member high power team from Kolkata has been rushed to the site. A departmental inquiry has been ordered to probe the incident.<br/><br/>State Fire Minister Sovan Chatterjee said the blaze was now well under control.<br/>
