In Uttarakhand, prayers resume at Kedarnath shrine after nearly 3 months

Prayers at the calamity-hit Kedarnath shrine of Uttarakhand resumed this morning, almost three months after flashfloods had left hundreds of people dead in the state. The prayers started in the presence of a 24-member team of priests and temple committee officials, after a sanctification and atonement ceremony. Our correspondent reports that in Kedarnath, arrangements of electricity, water supply, tele-communication along with basic necessity items has been restored. Besides, administrative officials, police and NDRF jawans along with a medical team have also been deployed. In view of damaged roads and safety, the State Government has decided not to allow people to visit the shrine via road route. This has angered local devotees, who wanted to visit the shrine. However, the District Magistrate of Rudraprayag said that a group of people can visit the temple in rotation if the condition of the road permits. Meanwhile, the combing operation in the upper reaches of Kedar valley to trace bodies has been suspended. The operation will resume after the prayers.
