In Uttarakhand, at least six people killed following cloudburst in Tehri and Uttarkashi districts

In Uttarakhand, at least six people were killed in heavy rains triggered by a series of cloudbursts in Tehri and Uttarkashi districts. Quoting local officials, PTI reports that about 700 people from 100 families in eight villages under Ghansali tehsil of Tehri has been affected by flash floods. They have been shifted to safer places and are being provided food, drinking water etc. In Chinyalisaur and Dunda tehsils of Uttarkashi, 3 persons are reported to be missing. Personnel from SDRF, police and revenue department have been pressed into service to carry out relief and rescue work. All Chardham roads have been opened and yatra is progressing uninterrrupted. Met department has warned of heavy rain in Champawat, Nainital, Almora, Dehradun, Tehri and Pauri districts during the next 36 hours. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent's report:-<br/><br/>"For most of the persons who were struck by thunderstorm in last two days, it was a bolt from blue in literal sense. ? Out of sixteen persons who lost their lives due to thunderstorm, twelve were fatally hit by uprooted trees or were buried in the debris of collapsed walls and houses. At several places, highways and rail tracks were stuck for hours as scores of uprooted trees and electric poles fell upon it. Mango growers in Lucknow, who uptil now were happy because of good crop, have been hit hard as their ready to be plucked mangoes fell down due to recurrent thunderstorm."
