In Maharashtra, Congress and NCP coalition government likely to be sworn in tomorrow

After intense negotiations, Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have reached a broad understanding on the portfolio allocation in Maharashtra which is likely to be sealed in a day or two. This should put an end to the uncertainty that has prevailed since the declaration of results on October 22. NCP's negotiator Praful Patel said in New Delhi that both the parties are close to finalising the agreement and a formal decision could be made by today afternoon. AIR Mumbai Correspondent reports that negotiators from both sides — Ahmed Patel from the Congress and Praful Patel from the NCP– were engaged in talks in New Delhi until late Wednesday night. Congress leaders, including A.K. Antony, are likely to discuss the deal today morning before seeking a nod from Congress High Command.A day after Maharashtra Governor S C Jamir issued an ultimatum to the Congress-NCP combine, Chief Minister-designate Ashok Chavan on Wednesday told the reporters that the new government would be formed in 48 hours. Mr. Jamir's tough talk prompted activities in both parties to gain momentum on Tuesday.
