In Jammu and Kashmir, Scientists of Temperate Sericulture Research Institute of SKUAST -Kashmir have succeeded in introduction of Sericulture in Poyen Village of Kargil. During 2015-16, 31 un-employed girls/women farmers received training at Poyen village and produced quality Bivoltine cocoons for the first time in Kargil district.<br/><br/>On the instructions of Chairman Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kargil Haji Mohd Hanifa Jan 40 days intensive Bivoltine Silk Worm rearing training programme is organized in the same village jointly by TSRI, SKUAST Kashmir and CSR & TI, Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, Pampore where 20 un-employed girls are presently receiving training. <br/><br/>Development of Sericulture activities in Kargil is bound to serve purpose of achieving Cocoon productivity, increasing employment and income generation for rural youth and tribal farmers.<br/><br/>It is worthwhile to mention that Zahra Parveen of Poyen village who attended Bivoltine Silkworm training from Scientists of Temperate Sericulture Research Institute of SKUAST -Kashmir last year has produced Silkworm eggs by collecting Silkworm Cocoons from the training Centre at her residence and developed a cleaning net in addition to paper trays used for silkworm rearing which is worth appreciating and she is at present rearing silkworms at her residence which are at advanced stage of rearing.<br/>
