In Indonesia, death toll in devastating tsunami rises to 113

In Indonesia, the death toll due to devastating tsunami has risen to 113. More than 500 went missing following this calamity. However, the head of the Health Ministry's crisis center, Mr Mujiharto, said the number of missing is between 150 and 500. On Monday, a powerful earthquake with 7.2 magnitude triggered tsunami in Mentawai islands in western Indonesia. The epicentre of the quake was located at 78kilometers southwest Pagai Selatan Mentawai and at a depth of 10 kilometers under sea bed. Local media said that the search and rescue team is focusing on searching the missing people. However, high tides have hindered the rescue work, preventing the rescuers from reaching the stricken area. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has declared an emergency response. Indonesia's most volatile volcano is also erupting, spewing plumes of hot ash and hurling rocks into the air. Officials said, the volcano – Merapi, in central Java, began erupting on Tuesday evening.
