In Afghanistan, Taliban militants carried out a bomb explosion in western city of Herat to target Afghan Energy and Water Minister Mohammad Ismail Khan on Sunday but he escaped unhurt. Four people were killed and 17 others including three of minister’s bodyguards were injured in the incident. Mr. Khan, who is a former Mujahideen warlord and fought against Taliban, expressed concern over security situation in the country saying it is deteriorating everyday. Addressing a press conference in capital Kabul on Sunday evening, he said security situation has negatively affected investment process in the country especially in the relatively peaceful Herat. Mr. Khan stressed that 60 militant groups are active in west Afghanistan undermining fragile security if the government does not take necessary steps. The former warlord asserted that he can ensure security in western Afghanistan within a year if given control and threatened not to join the new cabinet if security continues worsening.
