In Uttar Pradesh, arrested Saharanpur Congress candidate Imran Masood has been brought before a local court at Deoband and arguments are underway for his judicial custody. He was arrested late Friday night in connection with a FIR lodged against him at Deoband Police Station for violation of election Model Code of Conduct and objectionable remarks made by him against BJP leader Narendra Modi.
District Police Chief told AIR Allahabad correspondent that he was presented before a local court at Deoband for the remand. He said, Police has not made any request to the court for Police remand as nothing has to be recovered from him. He was arrested from his residence located under Qutubsher Police Station in the city and was lodged at Police Lines.
Meanwhile, Masood has said that the clippings of his remarks were not recent but seven months old. He said, if Modi apologises for 2002 Gujarat riots, he is ready to apologize for his remarks.
