The Government has taken a number of measures to provide improved medical facilities to the poor. Replying to a question in the Rajya Sabha today, Dr Harshavardhan has said that his ministry has already started working on the implementation of the Universal Health Insurance Scheme to provide free medical facilities. In addition to this the Government is planning to set up AIIMS like hospitals and tertiary health units in other states and also upgrade the facilities at Government controlled hospitals in the national capital. The minister also said the government will ask the post-graduate medical students to serve in a Primary Health Centre to provide substantial medical assistance to the people living in remotes areas.
