Import of substandard toys and sports equipment is on declining trend including from China: MoS Anupriya Patel in LS

The government today said the import of toys and equipment for sports and games is on a declining trend including from China. In a written reply in Lok Sabha, the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Ms Anupriya Patel said, in order to import substandard toys, the government brought them under the compulsory certification category of the Bureau of Indian Standards from 1st January 2021. She said this is applicable to both domestic and foreign manufacturers.<br />'' <br />''Ms Patel said the Centre is in discussion with the ASEAN countries for initiating the review of the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement to seek more market access for Indian products. Indian exporters are being encouraged to participate in trade fairs and exhibitions in the ASEAN countries with financial support under the Centre's Market Access Initiative scheme. She said the market access issues and trade barriers being faced in the ASEAN countries and China are being regularly taken up with individual countries through bilateral engagements.<br />
