The Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Mr Vilasrao Deshmukh has assured full cooperation from Centre to the State Government of Bihar for the speedy implementation of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) along with other flagship programmes. The assurance was given to the Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar who called on Mr Deshmukh in New Delhi on Thursday. The issue of finalising core network of rural roads in Bihar and monitoring the quality and progress of rural roads figured prominently in the discussions. Mr. Deshmukh asked the Ministry officials to sort out the core network issue within a month. Regarding the state Government request to look into the labour budget for MGNREGA, Mr. Deshmukh said this issue has to be considered in the wake of the fact that it is a demand driven scheme. The presence of Arsenic and Fluoride contents in the ground water and sanitation scenario in Bihar also came up during the discussions.
