The rupee gained 5 paise to 45 rupees 17 paise against the US dollar in early trade. It was supported by gains made by other Asian currencies against the greenback.Forex dealers said a higher opening in the stock market bolstered the rupee sentiment. The rupee had ended 25 paise higher at 45 rupees 23 paise against the US dollar in the previous session following a rally in the equity market and fresh dollar-selling by exporters.
