India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for the Very Severe Cyclonic Storm 'Biparjoy' over Northeast Arabian Sea. The cyclon is likely to cross Saurashtra, Kutch and adjoining Pakistan coasts between Mandvi in Gujarat and Karachi in Pakistan near Jakhau Port of Gujarat by Thursday evening with maximum sustained wind speed of 125-135 kmph gusting to 150 kmph.<br />'' <br />''A cyclone located 280 km away from the coast of Kutch is expected to potentially collide near the Jakhau after 4 pm on the 15th of June. According to IMD bulletin the Very Severe Cyclonic Storm "Biparjoy" over the Northeast Arabian Sea is located approximately 280 km west-southwest of Jakhau Port (Gujarat), 290 km west-southwest of Devbhumi Dwarka, 300 km west-southwest of Naliya, 350 km west-northwest of Porbandar, and 340 km south-southwest of Karachi (Pakistan).<br />'' <br />''The cyclonic storm will move in a northeastern direction and cross the Saurashtra &amp; Kutch regions, as well as the adjacent coasts of Pakistan, between Mandvi (Gujarat) and Karachi (Pakistan) near Jakhau Port (Gujarat) by the evening of 15th June. This storm is expected to be of the very severe category, with a maximum sustained wind speed ranging from 125-135 kmph and gusts reaching up to 150 kmph. Storm surge of about 2-3 m above the astronomical tide is likely to inundate the low lying areas of Kachchh, Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagarh and Morbi districts during the time of landfall. The astronomical tides along these districts could be upto 3-6 meters in different places. Total suspension of fishing operations over Gujarat Coast; Central and adjoining North Arabian sea from 14th June 2023 till 18th June. Ms. Mohanti, the Regional Director of the Central Meteorological Department, Ahmedabad has indicated the possibility of rainfall in districts such as Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, and Patan in North Gujarat also on 15th June.<br />'' <br />''Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, convened a meeting today at the State Emergency Operation Center in Gandhinagar to assess the situation regarding the impending Cyclone Biparjoy in coastal areas of the state. Alok Kumar Pandey, State Commissioner of Relief informed in meeting that the ongoing rehabilitation is expected to be completed 100% by today evening. As of now, more than 47,000 people have been safely relocated across various districts.
