The 10-member Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) has termed the two spells of flood in Odisha as huge and large-scale. Speaking to media persons at Bhubaneswar today after completing a four-day tour of different flood-devastated districts of the state, leader of the Central team and Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, OP Mahey, said Odisha government is likely to get higher amount of assistance this time compared to previous calamities. The team also met Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik before returning to New Delhi and discussed issues like Central assistance, post-flood relief operation and bringing normalcy in the flood-ravaged villages and cities. A memorandum demanding Rs 3,265 crore Central assistance was submitted to the Central team on the occasion.A large number of houses, embankments and roads have been washed away in the two spells of flood during this month. More than 90 people lost their lives with crop loss in a large hectares of land in the flood.Meanwhile, Union Minister of state for Chemicals and Fertilisers, Srikant Jena and another Congress delegation led by Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee, Niranjan Patnaik, met the Central team and sought quick Central assistance to the state. Opposition Congress delegation apprised the Central team about the mis-management of Hirakud Dam reservoir which led to severe flood and alleged the flood as man-made.
