In Manipur, security has been put on high alert in view of the 24-hour public emergency declared by the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit(ILP) System from the last midnight throughout the state. Police patrolling has been intensified in the state capital Imphal and additional police pickets have been readied in all vulnerable areas. In view of the increasing public demand for introduction of ILP System, state Cabinet has decided the last night to urge the Centre to extend the provision of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873 to the state to pave the way for introducing the system. Our Imphal Correspondent reports that the issue is likely to come up in the state assembly session today.
