IITs initiate corrective actions to minimize dropout rate: Smriti Irani

Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani has said the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have initiated corrective actions to minimize the dropout rate from the premier Institute . Replying to supplementaries in the Lok Sabha today, Mrs Irani said a total of 757 IIT students discontinued their studies in 2014-15 compared to 697 in 2013-14. The minister attributed the dropouts to medical and personal reasons and shifting to other colleges.

She said the performance of students is continuously monitored through class and laboratory tests and supplementary examinations. Additional classes are arranged for academically weaker students. Mrs. Irani said effective counseling is also being given to de-stress the students.
