IITF to open for general public today

The India International Trade Fair now on at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi will be thrown open to the general public from today.

First five days of the fair had been reserved for business visitors.

Indian Trade Promotion Organisation, ITPO, which is organising the event, is expecting around one million people to visit the fair. For general public, entry will be allowed from 9.30 AM to 5.30 PM.

Entry tickets will be available at Pragati Maidan Counters as well as designated metro stations.

AIR correspondent reports that the authorities have made elaborate security arrangements, including installation of close-circuit TVs and X-ray baggage scanners.

Ambulances have been stationed and first-aid booths set up at different locations.

Over 6,000 exhibitors from India and countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, Thailand and China are showcasing their products. With diverse handicrafts from various parts of the country, the theme of this year's fair is titled 'Indian Handicrafts-the magic of the gifted hands'.
