South Africa, Kerala and Chandigarh bagged the top prizes for the best display of indigenous products on the final day of the India International Trade Fair in New Delhi today. South Africa won the gold medal for best foreign stall among 26 participating countries that included Pakistan, Afghanistan, Hong Kong and Thailand. Kerala won the gold medal in the states category, while Chandigarh emerged winner in the Union Territories category. Speaking at the awards ceremony Commerce Secretary Rahul Khullar said that the fair was a huge success. More than 6000 exhibitors from India and abroad participated in the 14 day long event. The fair attracted nearly a lakh visitors everyday.
AIR correspondent reports, more than 6000 exhibitors from 27 countries participated in the 14 day long event. Traders did brisk business with hand made artefacts, jewellery and other decorative items attracting huge crowds.
Pakistani handicrafts, Chinese paintings and Afganistani jewellery were also widely appreciated. This year visitors were spoilt for choices with food items from almost all parts of the country on offer. The success of the fair could be judged from the fact that nearly a lakh visitors visited the fair everyday and authorities had to close entry in the afternoon itself on some days amidst huge rush.
