IISc Scientists develop a device that can measure the rate of evaporation within a couple of minutes.

A team of scientists from the Bengaluru based Indian Institute of Science has developed a device that can measure the rate of evaporation of a local area within a couple of minutes. The Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering Jaywant H Arakeri has informed that this device is more efficient and inexpensive when compared with existing methods.
”
” This device, he added, allows a much more realistic measure of transpiration from plants and evaporation from soils. Their study was published in the Journal of Hydrology.
”
”Measuring evaporation in plants and soil is useful for farmers to gauge water requirements for their fields. It also helps weather stations to characterize the local atmospheric conditions. Botanists use the device to study the dynamics of transpiration in plants. Jaywant Arakeri said that they are looking for interested companies to take up production of this new device.
”
