IHF to allot next year's Men's Champions Trophy to India

The massive success of the World Cup in New Delhi in March has prompted the International Hockey Federation to allot the next year's Men's Champions Trophy to India though the country has not qualified for it. As per the rules, top six teams in the World are eligible to take part in the Champions Trophy and India does not fulfil that criteria. In the case of World Cup also, India was allotted the event, without having qualified for it. The Champions Trophy is scheduled for December 2011 and it will be the third time in hockey history that India will host flagship event after Chennai in 2005 and 1996. Olympic and World Champion Netherlands will host the women's Champions Trophy next year, with the tournament being completed by the end of June 2011. For both Champions Trophies, the exact dates and place will be decided in the coming weeks.
