IHEC to send Iraq’s election result to Supreme Federal Court

The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) of Iraq has said that the results of the parliamentary elections will be sent to the Supreme Federal Court in accordance with the Constitution.Without mentioning the final results, the Voice of Iraq news agency quoting the statement of spokesperson for IHEC, Qassem al-Abboudi has reported that the Board of Commissioners has approved the final results, which will be subject to appeal by political blocs within three days. The spokesperson also said that all appeals will be submitted the Supreme Federal Court in accordance with Article 93 of the Iraqi Constitution. Meanwhile, according to reports, the latest results from Iraq's election show a tight race emerging between PM Nouri Maliki and his main rival, Iyad Allawi. With 80 per cent of votes counted, the Iraqiya coalition led by former prime minister, Mr Allawi has a narrow overall lead for the first time. But Mr Maliki's State of Law alliance remains ahead in Baghdad and Basra. Iraqi National Alliance and Kurdistan Alliance have also won seats in some provinces.
