Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has instituted Raman Chair to promote interdisciplinary research and teaching in basic sciences. IGNOU Vice Chancellor VN Rajasekharan Pillai said the Chair will coordinate integrated science teaching and multidisciplinary research activities besides developing curricula and syllabi for new courses at all levels. Mr Pillai said the Chair will identify bright young talent from all sections of society and regions to participate in the development of science through seminars. The Raman Chair will also work with national policy making bodies to map out strategies for science promotion at all levels.<br/>
