IG Thachenkerry appear before court

In Kerala, Inspector General of Police Tomin Thachenkerry, against whom an arrest warrant was issued by the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Alappuzha on Friday, appeared before the court today. The court had issued an arrest warrant against him for failing to appear before it to attend the reading out of the chargesheet against him and seven other police officials in connection with a case relating to alleged custodial torture. The case was filed by one Prakasan accusing Tomin J Thanchenkerry and seven other police officials of falsely implicating him in a murder case and torturing him in custody in 1991. Thachenkerry, who was the ASP of Alappuzha when the incident took place is the first accused in the case. Prakasan was found to be innocent in a subsequent crime branch inquiry. All the other seven police officials accused in the case appeared before the court on Friday.
