IFFI on the last leg, over two dozen films to be screened today

At the 42nd International Film Festival of India which is on its last leg at Panaji in Goa, more than two dozens films including repeat shows are slated to be screened today.

A Sri Lankan film, ‘Flying Fish’ by Sanjeewa Pushpakumara is one such movie which traces desperate attempts of ordinary people to lead a normal life when the battle between Tamil Tigers and Army was on there.

Some other films which will be screened include ‘Adwait Sangeet’ on Pt. Rajan and Sajan Mishra of Banaras Gharana and a Japanese film Hara-Kiri.

Meanwhile, in the 4th edition of the Short Film Center Award ceremony held at IFFI venue, last evening, the “Golden Lamp Tree Award” for best Short Film in International Competition was won by Smita Bhide for her film ‘Another Planet’.

The film presents a fresh and different vision of child poverty in India. The award carries a citation, a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 4 Lakh.

The “Silver Lamp Tree Award” has gone to the film ‘Crazy Beats Strong Everytime’, directed by US based Moon Molson.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 3 Lacs, a trophy and a citation.

The “Special Jury Prize” in the same category has gone to Mumbai based director Ashish Pandey for his 15-mins long film – ‘Open Doors’. This award carries a citation, trophy and cash money of Rs. 2 Lakh.

The Vasudha Award for the best film on Environmental Issues was bagged by K.R. Manoj for his film ‘A Pestering Journey’. The film has been made on the use of pesticides in Punjab and Kerala and how it affects our environment and human life.

In a new section introduced for Goan film makers only, there was no entry in the Vasudha Award section. In the International Competition, “Special Jury Award for Goan Film” went to Ashok Rane for his film on the life of music legend, Anthony Gonsalves. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/- besides a citation and a trophy.
