ID proof mandatory for train travel from tomorrow

The Railways says it will be mandatory for sleeper- class train passengers to carry identity proof from tomorrow to facilitate travel by bonafide people and reduce the scope for misuse of tickets by touts.

Talking to AIR , a spokesperson of Northern Railway said it has been done to facilitate genuine passengers to avail confirm tickets. He said, earlier it was mandatory for AC-class passengers to carry I-cards.

The spokesman said, from tomorrow, passengers failing to produce original identity proof in sleeper class, as and when asked for, will be treated as without ticket . Passengers traveling on a Tatkal or an e-ticket are also required to carry I-cards while undertaking train journey.

The rule will apply for all forms of ticket, including those for sleeper class, issued by Railways through computerised passenger reservation system or Internet.

Our correspondent reports, passengers can carry any of ten ID proofs while undertaking train journey .

These proofs are -voter ID card, passport, PAN card, driving licence, Aadhar card ,photo identity card having serial number issued by the central and state government, student identity card with photograph issued by recognised school and college, nationalised bank passbook with photograph and credit cards issued by banks with laminated photograph.
