ICRC expresses concerns over increasing militancy in Afghanistan

The International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) has expressed concerns over increasing militancy in Afghanistan posing major threats in its aid distributions to the needy people. A spokesman for ICRC in Kabul Abdul Hasib Rahimi told reporters that the increase in number of militant groups all over Afghanistan will limit and challenge ICRC's aid deliveries. He urged all factions involved in Afghan war not to create obstacles in their humanitarian aid deliveries to Afghans and also not to harm their staff. Militancy in Afghanistan is led by Taliban but the group is fragmented and aid groups are finding it increasingly difficult to deal with numerous groups. Eight foreign aid workers were killed in August by an unknown militant group in northern Badakshan province. War is raging all over Afghanistan and Taliban militants carried out three attacks against Afghan security forces yesterday that left 12 people dead.ICRC spokesman claimed that civilian casualties caused by the increasing militancy, especially in the country's war zones have doubled this year. Traffic jam and road blockades, mostly in the cities and towns, are also among other challenges towards aid deliveries cited by the ICRC officials, as in most cases patients or the wounded ones die before reaching the hospital.
