The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has alerted Goa, Karnataka and Kerala governments after almost 110 oil barrels were seen floating off the Maharashtra coast, with a threat of a spill if they break midway. ICG in a letter to the states said that the drums were first sighted off Kashid beach and since then coastal and local police stations are reporting recovery of drums up to Vengurla (Maharashtra) coast. It said, a total of 90 drums have been recovered till the 10th of this month, and it is probable that the remaining drums may also land along Goa, Karnataka and Kerala coast. The letter also said that the drums contain Hydrocarbon product which may be harmful to humans. It added that the origin and source of these floating drums are being ascertained.
