ICC World Cup: Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by 11 runs

Pakistan pulled off a stunning 11-run victory over title-aspirants Sri Lanka in a nail-biting Group A league match at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo yesterday. Electing to bat, Pakistan posted a competitive 277 for seven in their 50 overs. Misbah-ul-Haq top-scored with a fine unbeaten 83, while Younis Khan made 72. They then restricted Sri Lanka to 266 for nine in the stipulated overs. Pakistan Skipper Shahid Afridi who claimed four wickets in the Sri Lankan innings was declared the Man of the Match. With two wins in as many matches, Pakistan has virtually assured themselves of a quarter-final berth. With one win and one defeat, Sri Lanka has so far collected two points.
