In a nail biting thriller, Afghanistan register its first ever victory in the Cricket World Cup by 1 wicket. Afghanistan reached the target of 211 runs with 3 balls to spare against Scotland in a Pool A match played at Dunedin. Afghanistan's Samiullah Shenwari gave the fight single handedly as he scored 96 before being out in the 47th over, leaving 19 runs required off 17 balls with one wicket remaining. Tailenders Hamid Hassan and Shapoor Zadran played nervy innings to cross the victory target in the last over for Afghanistan. Earlier, asked to bat first, Scotland had scored 210 all out in stipulated 50 overs.
