The ICC World Cup 2011 trophy was unveiled at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Dhaka on Saturday, in a ceremony to begin the countdown to cricket's biggest tournament. Haroon Lorgat, chief executive of the International Cricket Council handed the trophy to Sharad Pawar, chairman of the 2011 World Cup central organising committee and ICC vice-president. Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka are jointly hosting the tournament which is scheduled to be inaugurated by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on February 17th, 2011. Dhaka will also host the opening match, at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on February 19, between Bangladesh and India. A total of eight matches, including two quarter finals, will be held in Bangladesh. Earlier in the morning yesterday the Central Organising Committee under the Chairmanship of Sharad Pawar met in Dhaka to review the preparations in Bangladesh. Later talking to reporters, Mr. Pawar said that he is confident that the three countries are on track to host the world cup in a befitting manner.
