ICC Twenty20: West Indies beat Australia by 6 wickets

West Indies are placed second in Group 2 and have a defeat and a win from their ICC World Twenty20 matches so far.Australia tightened noose around West Indies by taking quick wickets, after strong show by the top order in initial overs, with asking rate quite high during a huge chase in their World T20 clash.Chasing 179, West Indies were reduced to 130/4 in 16.3 overs.Mitchell Starc struck again in the 17th over to dismiss Marlon Samuels, giving Windies fourth jolt.Spinner James Muirhead brought Australia back in the game by getting rid of danger man Chris Gayle just after he reached his fifty at the score of 101.After addition of six runs on the board, Doug Bollinger dealt third blow on West Indies by ending Simmons Challenge.Simmons scored 26 off 24 balls and was involved in 51-run partnership with Gayle for the second wicket.Gayle pulled Muirhead' googly towards mid wicket giving an easy catch to Glenn Maxwell at the score of 101 in the 13th over.He reached his half-ton in 31 balls, keeping West Indies hope intact in huge chase.The explosive opener gave West Indies a flying start as the defending champions reached first fifty in just 26 balls.Mitchell Starc gave West Indies first blow by scalping Dwayne Smith (17) after a solid 50-run opening stand.Earlier, Australia survived a West Indies spin assault to post a commanding 178/8.Six of the eight wickets fell to spinners after Australia elected to take first strike, with Samuel Badree, Marlon Samuels and Sunil Narine claiming two wickets each.Glenn Maxwell hit 45 off 22 balls at the top of the order, while Brad Hodge chipped in with a 26-ball 35 during a sixth-wicket stand of 52 with James Faulkner.Both teams, who have lost a game each, need a win to remain in serious contention for the semi-finals.Australia were beaten by Pakistan in their only game so far, while defending champions West Indies lost to India before defeating hosts Bangladesh.A second loss for either team will almost certainly hasten an early exit.Openers David Warner and Aaron Finch plundered 33 runs off the first 22 balls when the West Indies hit back with three wickets in the next two overs.Finch and Warner were bowled trying to hit against the spin, while Shane Watson was stumped on second attempt by Denesh Ramdin in Narine's first over.
