ICC notifies new laws for ODIs

International Cricket Council, ICC, Chief Executive Dave Richardson on Friday, announced significant changes to the One-Day International playing conditions after discussing the ICC Cricket Committee's recommendations at the ICC Annual Conference 2015 in Barbados.Chief among the changes instituted by ICC was the scrapping of the batting powerplay from the 50-over format. In a move to give bowlers a bit of breathing room in 50-overs cricket, the ICC board also decided to do away with catching fielders in the first ten overs, allow five fielders outside the 30-yard circle in the last ten overs of an ODI innings. The board also announced that free hits is now to be awarded for all no balls in ODI and T20 internationals, not just when bowlers overstep. These notable changes will take place from 5th of next month. The ICC notified that according to the new playing conditions, the five over batting powerplay where only 3 fielders were allowed to be outside the 30 yard circle is now scrapped.Five fielders will be allowed to field outside the 30-yard circle in the final 10 overs of the innings. So teams will essentially be allowed a maximum of two fielders outside the circle between overs one and ten while overs 11 to 40 would allow the stationing of four fielders outside the circle.New rules have also allowed teams not to field compulsory catchers between overs one and ten while all no-balls, not just foot faults will henceforth result in a free-hit.Richarsdon said at the press conference change are to make the format simpler and easier to follow for the public as well as maintaining a balance between bat and ball.
