ICC may scrap Champions Trophy

The International Cricket Council -ICC could scrap Champions Trophy. ICC CEO Haroon Lorgat told reporters in Chennai that the council is considering doing away with the much-criticised Champions Trophy to maintain the World Cup's status as the – pinnacle ODI event. The Champions Trophy has been played since 1998. But, the biennial Trophy has often been derided for being a meaningless event as there is already an ODI World Cup.There were also criticisms with several experts ridiculing its length and the presence of minnows which lead to a number of mismatches in the event. The ICC is already considering reducing the number of teams to 10 for the next edition in 2015.
