ICC defends proposed structural and financial changes for better management of the World Cricket Body

The ICC Chief Executive Dave Richardson has defended the proposed structural and financial changes for a better management of the world cricket body. Addressing a press conference at the ICC Headquarters in Dubai today, Mr. Richardson said the principles for better governance have been cleared by the ICC Board through a collective. It would give incentives for a better performance and raise the standards of cricket. He denied the accusations that an oligarchy is being created by giving more weightage to India, England and Australia. The ICC Chief said that the idea is to have a greater involvement in the leadership of the game of cricket by the top three cricketing nations. On the issue of making the mutually agreed bi-lateral Future Tours Program ,FTP Agreements bankable and legally binding , he told that it will ensure there are no back outs from the game. The Future Tours Program or the FTP Agreements will run for the same period as the ICC commercial rights cycle of 2015-2023.Mr. Richardson also denied reports that the proposal would lead to relegations of the poor performing nations from the full member status of the ICC. On the issue of more funding for the Associate members, he said that efforts would be made to generate more funds for the Associate members. The ICC President Allan Issac stated that the views of the ICC Board are based on the opinions of all the members for a better management of cricket.Earlier, the ICC Board in its two day meeting in Dubai gave its nod to the principles related to future structure, governance and financial models of the apex cricket body of the world. The board decided that the Board for Control of Cricket in India, BCCI would assume a central leadership responsibility. A BCCI representative will chair the ICC Board from June 2014 onwards for a period of two years from June onwards. He will lead a five member committee including the representatives of Cricket Australia, CA , the English Cricket Board ,ECB and two other members from within the board. A new company will be set up to tender future commercial rights for ICC events. There will be three major ICC events in each four-year cycle, including the ICC Champions Trophy which will replace the ICC World Test Championship. A Test Cricket Fund would be set up and all Full members except the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Cricket Australia and the England and Wales Cricket Board will be paid equally on an annual basis from the fund to promote the test cricket.
