Riding on Joe Root's 121, England posted 309 for 6 in the stipulated 50 overs. The Lankans reached the target in just 47.2 overs losing just one wicket. Unbeaten centuries from Thirimanne (139) and Sangakkara (117) helped Sri Lanka finish the match with 16 balls remaining.
