ICC Cricket World Cup: New Zealand beat Scotland by 3 wickets

In the ICC Cricket World Cup on Tuesday, co-hosts New Zealand defeated Scotland in a Pool A match at Dunedin by 3 wickets. This was New Zealand's second consecutive victory in this world cup. Chasing a small target of 143, hosts made 146 for 7 in 24.5 overs. But, it was an unimpressive show. Scotland's opening bowler Iain Wardlaw took three wickets for 57 in just 9.5 overs to give New Zealand some nervous moments. Earlier, New Zealand had destroyed Scotland's top order with a superb display of swing bowling from Trent Boult and Tim Southee, who reduced Preston Mommsen's side to 12 for four in the fifth over. Matt Machan (56) and Richie Berrington (50) rescued Scotland's innings with a 97-run fifth-wicket partnership but once they were dismissed the tail collapsed. On Wednesday, Bangladesh will open their World Cup campaign against debutant World Cup team Afghanistan at Manuka Oval, Canberra.
