ICC Cricket World Cup: Ireland beat UAE by 2 wickets

In a thrilling run-chase, Ireland today defeated UAE by 2 wickets to win their second consecutive game of the ICC Cricket World Cup. Sent in to bat in Brisbane, UAE had posted 278 for 9 courtesy Shaiman Anwar's maiden ODI ton. He made 106 off 83 balls. Amjad Javed ably supported Anwar in the 107-run seventh wicket stand that resurrected UAE which were reeling at one stage. The pair provided the required impetus and UAE made 78 runs in the last 8 overs to post 278.In reply, Ireland after a pedestrian start, got their rhythm back in the latter stage of the innings and chased down the target in the last over with just 2 wickets in hand. Wicket keeper Gary Wilson and Kevin O'Brien played a crucial part in the chase. While Wilson made 80, Kevin O'Brien scored 50. Tomorrow, in Pool-A, Afghanistan will take on Scotland at 3:30 AM Indian Time in Dunedin, while Bangladesh will clash with Sri Lanka in Melbourne at 9 am.
