ICC bans Butt, Asif & Amir for match fixing

The International Cricket Council has found Pakistani cricketers, Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir, guilty of spot-fixing and has banned them for lengthy periods. While Salman Butt has been banned for 10 years with five years of suspended sentence, Mohammed Asif has been sanctioned for seven years with two years suspended. Mohammad Amir has been banned for five years. The verdict was announced after a nine-hour hearing in front of the ICC's three-man tribunal — comprising Michael Beloff QC, Sharad Rao and Justice Albie Sachs — and the players and their legal teams at the Qatar Financial Center in Doha. There was a great deal of drama and argument in the hearing as the players' lawyers requested the ICC to adjourn the verdict as it could have an impact on the criminal case filed by UK's Crown Prosecution Service against the players in London on Friday.
