The Information and Broadcasting Ministry is planning to allow self regulation for the entertainment channels on the lines of the news channels. This was revealed by I&B Secretary Raghu Menon in New Delhi today.Addressing the 17th Broadcast Engineering Society Expo, Mr. Menon said that the Government does not want to directly regulate the entertainment channels. He informed that the self regulation mechanism will be finalised soon.Expressing concern over increasing viewers' complaint against the content being aired on some of the entertainment channels, Mr. Menon said content regulation is important for ensuring smooth functioning of Broadcasting Services.Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson of Prasar Bharti Dr Mrinal Pandey cautioned the broadcasters against following the hysterical ratings driven race. She said that the programmers must be careful of what they broadcast.
