Today is the birth centenary of master filmmaker Satyajit Ray. Born on May 2, 1921, Ray is regarded as one of the finest filmmakers the world has ever seen. He created cinematic masterpieces like 'Pather Panchali', 'Charulata' and 'Devi'. The filmmaker died at the age of 70 on April 23 in 1992.<br />”<br />”The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has initiated various activities to pay tribute to the legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray on his birth centenary.<br />”<br />”A Ray film festival is being organized from today till 4th May, by the National Museum of Indian Cinema, Mumbai. It is being organized in association with the National Film Development Corporation, Films Division, National Film Archives of India, and Doordarshan with the support of West Bengal government. His experiments with the art made him a friend of great filmmakers like Bergman and Kurosawa. Ray received many major awards in his career, including 36 National Film Awards, a Golden Lion, a Golden Bear, 2 Silver Bears, and an Academy Honorary Award in 1992. The Government of India honoured him with the Bharat Ratna, its highest civilian award, in 1992. <br />”<br />
