Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu today asked All India Radio and Doordarshan to focus on development and stay away from sensationalism. <br/><br/>Addressing the officials of various media units of his ministry in Hyderabad today, Mr Naidu stressed the need to disseminate credible information to the people at grassroots level and highlight development activities. He opined that information holds the key for tackling poverty, social evils and corruption.<br/><br/>Mr Naidu exhorted AIR and Dooordarshan to be innovative in tune with the rise in the expectations of the people and also be geared up to compete with private channels.<br/><br/>He said the programmes should be attractive and commercially viable. As public broadcaster, the Minister said both AIR and Doordarshan should nurture the age-old traditions, culture and heritage and family system for which the country is known for globally. He said the entire world looks at India for spiritual values which are part of Indian culture.<br/><br/>On the occasion, the Minister stressed the need to downplay any incidents that trigger violence in the society. <br/>He said differently abled people should be encouraged to exhibit their talent in AIR and DD. <br/><br/>Earlier, the minister visited the facilities of the Air and Doordarshan and planted saplings on the premises. During his visit to AIR news studios, Mr Naidu recalled his childhood memories and described how radio news was close to his heart.
