The 2017 edition of the Implementation and Assessment Group (IAG) Meeting of the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism (GICNT) concluded this afternoon in New Delhi. 152 delegates from 41 GICNT Partner countries participated in the three-day event. <br/><br/>In his concluding address, Dr. R.B Grover, Member, Atomic Energy Commission of India highlighted the importance of proliferation resistant technological options that contribute to nuclear security. He urged the GICNT to focus on the security of radio-isotopes that could be separated from spent fuel. <br/><br/>Earlier on Wednesday, Foreign Secretary in his inaugral address highlighted the pervasive threat posed by terrorism to international security. He emphasized the need to clamp down on terrorism and prevent nuclear material and technology from falling in the hands of terrorists and non-state actors. Hosting of the 2017 meeting by India reflects its strong and continued support to global nuclear non-proliferation and peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
