IAF to display combat and fire power for first time in Pokhran today

The Indian Air Force will demonstrate its combat and firepower today at Pokharan firing range in its exercise Iron Fist in the presence of President Pranab Mukherjee , Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries . Talking to AIR, Defence Spokesperson Lt Col Manish Ojha said the event comprises six packages depicting six themes in which more than 180 fighters, transport aircraft and helicopters will participate. He said first on the show, would be a flypast showing IAF's journey over eight decades, with the aircraft of yesteryears like Tiger Moth flying along with the latest acquisitions of the IAF. <br/><br/>The flypast by a mixed formation comprising MiG-21, MiG-27, MiG-29 and the mighty Su-30, would represent the transformation of the IAF over the decades. Capability demonstration of the indigenously developed 'Tejas' aircraft to deliver Laser Guided Bomb and fire a Air-to-Air Missile and the capability of the indigenous Light Combat Helicopter to carry out rocket firing would be carried out for the first time. The firing of Akash Missile would be undertaken for the first time in the IAF's history of Fire Power Demonstration,denfense spokesman added.<br/><br/>

The Indian Air Force will demonstrate its combat and firepower, including Akash Missile, for the first time, in the desert of Pokhran in Jaisalmer today. The event, named exercise Iron Fist, will be attended by President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi among other dignitaries. <br/><br/>181 aircraft including Sukhoi and Tejas will demonstrate a synchronized aerial ballet that would showcase its combat capabilities. <br/><br/>Glimpses of an exponential increase in the operational capabilities of the Air Force with focus on the concept of all weather, network centric operations, precision weapon delivery and ability to deliver lethal firepower will be on display during the exercise. <br/><br/>Apart from live fire power demonstration Indian Air Force Surya Kiran team will showcase aerobatic displays. Live demonstration by IAF Garuds and special heliborne operations will also be show cased during the event.

The release said, the primary objective of the exercise is to demonstrate the capability of the Indian Air Force to safeguard the national interests.
