IAEA says Iran not providing necessary cooperation on n-material

The Director General of International Atomic Energy Agency ( IAEA) Yukiya Amano has said that Iran has not provided the necessary cooperation to permit the Agency to confirm that all nuclear material in Iran is in peaceful activities.According to a statement received by AIR in Dubai today, Yukiya Amano told the General Assembly, as he presented his first report as Director General of the IAEA that agency continues to verify the non-diversion of declared nuclear material by Iran. He added that the cooperation needed includes full implementation of relevant resolutions of the Council and the IAEA Board of Governors. Iran again insisted to a nuclear debate at the UN General Assembly however that it is only working on civilian energy.AIR correspondent Dhirendra Ojha areports from Dubai that in September, The IAEA director General voiced regret over Iran’s decision to bar two key nuclear inspectors, saying the move hinders the Agency’s investigation into the country’s nuclear programme. UN says that Iran’s nuclear programme has been a matter of international concern since the discovery in 2003 that the country had concealed its nuclear activities for 18 years in breach of its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).Iranian officials have stated that its programme is aimed at peaceful purposes, but some other countries contend that it is driven by military ambitions. The UN Security Council has imposed 4 rounds of sanctions against Iran since 2006, the most recent being in June, citing the proliferation risks posed by its nuclear programme and its continued failure to cooperate with the IAEA. Iran’s deputy ambassador to UN said that his country is determined to exercise its right to nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. He however added that Iran is ready to start new talks with the six international powers — Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States.
