The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Yukiya Amano, will visit Iran tomorrow for talks with Iranian leaders and senior officials.
In a statement, the UN nuclear watchdog said that the visit is part of the efforts to advance dialogue and cooperation between the Agency and Iran.
The move comes close on the heels of statement by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif yesterday that Tehran and P5+1 group are unlikely to reach a permanent deal on Tehran’s nuclear program before a four-month extension period expires in November. Iran and the six major world powers- Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China and Germany had agreed to extend the deadline to reach a deal on Tehran’s nuclear program by November end.
Under the Geneva action plan adopted last November, the six world powers and Iran were supposed to reach a deal guaranteeing the exclusively peaceful nature of Tehran’s nuclear program by July 20 in exchange for the step by step lifting of sanctions against Iran.
