In pursuance of a directive from the Election commission to monitor large scale movement of cash in poll bound states, the income tax department has set up a round the clock toll free call centre to receive complaints on this. The Additional Director General of Income Tax (Investigation), Chennai Mr S.Ravichandran said complaints and information may also be given via fax and email. In a press release issued in Chennai, he said persons who have knowledge or information about movement of cash through airports, important railway stations, cash couriers, hotels, hawala agents, financial brokers can pass on information to the toll free number. Also they could inform the department regarding any expenditure in the name of fake ceremonies organized by candidates in the state during the election to lure voters. Complaints could be registered in the toll free number – 1800 4256669 and e-mail could be sent to itcontrolroomchennai@gmail.com.
