Myanmar pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi who is on a five day visit to India, has said that she felt partly a citizen of India and has an emotional bond with the country.
Addressing students and teachers at her alma mater Lady Shri Ram College in New Delhi today, she said that her visit to the college feels like home coming.
The leader also reminisced her formative years in the institution, where she learnt the first lessons of democracy.
Talking about her vision for a democratic Myanmar, Suu kyi said that her country needs India's help in its progression towards democracy.
Suu Kyi had graduated from Lady Shri Ram College in 1964 with a degree in political Science.
The leader is scheduled to visit Banglalore on Saturday where she will visit the Indian Institute of Science and the Infosys campus, she will also visit rural areas in Andhra Pradesh to gain a first-hand impression of rural development and women’s empowerment programmes being undertaken in India.
